Local Police and Authorities of State Central Library at Trivandrum decided to close the Park of the library during daytime to get rid of college-bunking couples and lovers. The decision is applicable to the general public also.
The Park has been college student’s favorite place for studying, copying notes and sharing study materials all because it has a lot of shady trees and benches.
The park, which used to be open during usual working hours, now stays under lock and key until 3.30 pm. CC TV cameras were installed in the park when authorities got wind of couples flocking to the park in the daytime. But the decision to lock it up followed soon.
Those who criticize the decision point out that the park and its surroundings are usually mobeds with students and the public looking for a calm place to relax. It makes the park turned a favorite haunt of lovebirds.
The security guards in the park insist that families shy away from coming to the park since many couples cross the limits of acceptable behavior in a public space.
Students who depended on the park are left with no choice but to plop down on the floors of verandas to do their writing and reading.
Regular visitors are coming up with a protest against the action, which is gaining momentum now with students and moreover lovers.
