MTV Awards return for the first time in 21 years to London. Various artists won prizes of different categories. The awards ceremony returns to London with a glitzy show.
Canadian sensation Shawn Mendes was the big winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) as he picked up three awards including the inaugural best artist prize.
The 19-year-old, who launched his career by posting song covers to the internet before getting signed to a record label, also scooped the best song and biggest fans awards.
He performed the track that won him the best song – There’s Nothing Holding Me Back – at the star-studded ceremony at Wembley Arena in London. He beat Brit Ed Sheeran in the new genderless category as well as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Kendrick Lamar.
The show was opened by Eminem who unveiled his new single Walk On Water
The awards ceremony at Wembley Arena, the first to be staged in the British capital in 20 years, were hosted by Rita Ora and featured performances by U2 and David Guetta.
The event was also attended by London mayor Sadiq Khan who helped bring the EMAs to the capital as part of his LondonIsOpen campaign.

In a first for the EMAs – created in 1994 – categories were stripped of gender in a bid to “break barriers”.
