Dubai Police had updated and kept itself on par in terms of technology and techniques. This has helped the police seize drugs worth 2 tons.
A huge drug haul worth $5.83 million (€5 million) was seized by seven European countries after Dubai Police tipped counterparts in Europe that led to the arrests of 80 suspects.
The German Federal Customs Investigation Bureau thanked the Dubai Police for cooperation and assistance that led to the seizure.
The Head of German Federal Customs Investigation Bureau, Norbert Drouda, expressed his thanks to the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri in a joint press conference held at Dubai Police Officers Club on 13 November.
Major Al Merri, Head of Dubai Police, said that since May 2016, they have been cooperating with the German Federal Customs Service’s investigative unit (ZKA) by providing information about drug suspects and shipments to Germany and other European countries.
The information helped the concerned authorities to arrest 80 suspects and seized two tons of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines, and khat.
Drouda also praised the implementation of the strategies of the Dubai Ministry of Interior, as per directives of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in order to protect UAE society from the consequences of drug use, especially among the youth.
The event witnessed the presence of Major General Khalid Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Criminal Investigation of Dubai Police; Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, the Director of General Department of Anti-Narcotics; Brigadier General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Deputy Director General of Administrative Affairs and Col. Khaled Bin Muweiza, Deputy Director of General Department of Drug Control; and Norbert Drouda, Head of the German Federal Customs Investigation Bureau.
How Dubai Police helped
Maj. Gen. Al Marri revealed the operation “Eyes of Surveillance” which was initiated in May 2016 and went on for nearly two years. The Anti-Narcotic Department of Dubai Police provided the German liaison officer with intelligence information which helped in nabbing 80 drug traffickers in seven European countries: Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Austria.
The Major General also praised the German liaison officer in Dubai for his response and promptness, while Drouda appreciated the relations between UAE and Germany in terms of combating drug trafficking.
Dubai Police is dealing with smuggling of drugs into the UAE and will also fight against drug trafficking in other countries. Dubai Police is using latest technologies to detect any narcotic substances or other prohibited substances such as explosives, weapons, and ammunition, and is ready to cooperate with partner countries in fighting drug trafficking.
Methods used to smuggle drugs
They used different methods to smuggle the drugs like hiding them in bananas, inside dictionary books, chocolate, capsules, travel bags, and speakers.
