This is what White House says about Indo-US relationship under trump

They have also spoken over the phone on several occasions after Trump was elected as the US President last year.

White House principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah’s remarks came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump held a meeting in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit.

According to the reports, India is a natural ally of the US due to their shared commitment to democracy and counter-terrorism. The bilateral relationship is going to get stronger and better under the Trump administration.

Shah said that the US-India relationship should stand on its own leg and “not be contingent” on any other relationship. There are a lot more in common between India and the US than that between the US and China, he added.

The meeting was the second between the two leaders since they met at the White House in June. Shah describes the meeting as a “really big step”.

He also added that Shah said the relationship between the two largest democracies is expanding in wide areas like regional security issues, trade and economy in addition to areas like terrorism.
