31-year old woman caught from Ayyappa Sannidanam.

The 31-year old woman tried to enter the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala. The woman is a resident of West Godavari district in Telangana, was caught from the Sannidanam by the police force. The lord Ayappa temple in Sabarimala, where the women devotees of 10-50 age group are not permitted. According to the tradition of the temple, the entry of women in the 10-50 age group is restricted in the hillock shrine dedicated to Lord Ayyappa considered the ‘Naishtika Bramachari’ or the perennial celibate.

Normally devotees have to go through the pathinettam padi, the scared 18 steps leading to the temple complex. The woman named Parvathy was not carrying the traditional ‘irumudi kett’ which is offered to the deity. And she took a different path to reach the sannidanam and was caught by the police.

The woman was accompanied by her husband, two children and other 11 people from her village. And she told that she was unaware of the restrictions with regards of women entry. Uncertainly police checked her identity card and found she is 31 years old.

The entry of women is strictly monitored and checked from Pamba to reach near the shrine. And the police doubt how she reach the shrine.

The ban on the issue of women entering Sabarimala temple is challenged in Supreme Court.’Bhumata Brigade’ leader and woman activist Trupti Desai had said she would enter Sabarimala defying the restrictions. Two days ago, some Hindu right-wing groups have kicked up a row by claiming that a woman below 50 years entered the Sabarimala temple along with health minister KK Shylaja on Friday. Thousands of people across the country are visiting the hillock shrine every day to catch a glimpse of Lord Ayyappa and offer prayers.
