BREAKING NEWS : Journalist Shot Dead By State Rifle Jawan

A senior journalist was allegedly shot dead on Tuesday by a soldier of the Tripura State Rifles during an altercation in RK Nagar, nearly 20km from Tripura capital Agartala, officials said.

Sudip Dutta Bhowmik, a seasoned crime reporter working for the Bengali daily Syandan Patrika, was shot dead inside the Tripura State Rifles camp at RK Nagar in the eastern part of capital Agartala.

Bhaumik, who was visiting the camp for a story was reportedly shot by a rifleman at point blank range. He was rushed to the Agartala Government Medical College where he was declared brought dead. Bhaumik is survived by his wife and two children.

According to police sources, Bhaumik was visiting the TSR second battalion camp to meet the Commandant. He apparently got into an argument with the TSR personnel which led to the firing.
