However, the Hindutva brigade opposed the film arguing that its story-line distorted the historical facts on Padmavati.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader CP Joshi on Monday requested Home Minister Rajnath Singh to allow the release of “Padmavati” only after obtaining approval of Mewar’s royal family and historians.
He also announced that a memorial would be built in queen Padmavati’s memory.
Earlier, delegations of the Rajput community arrived from different parts of Madhya Pradesh and submitted a memorandum to the chief minister demanding a ban on the release of “Padmavati“.
“We have been reading about the queen’s sacrifice from childhood”.
The film has been facing controversy since director Sanjay Leela Bhansali started its shooting earlier this year.
Padmavati has already been banned in Madhya Pradesh, again, because its assumed distortion of history and the protests by the Karni Sena and other fringe groups, none of whose members have seen anything from the movie, except the trailer and two songs. The film was scheduled to release on 1 December. Its elaborate sets were also vandalized during shooting schedules in Jaipur and Kolhapur.
The new release date of “Padmavati“, which features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji, is yet to be announced.
The film has been mired in protests and threats over the script. Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio behind “Padmavati“, in a statement said it had taken the decision to “voluntarily” defer the film’s release.
