The controversy surrounding Padmavati has taken a turn for the worse. With these allegations in the air will the film be up for release?
The body of a man was found hanging from Jaipur’s Nahargarh fort on Friday morning and a message written on a rock nearby suggested the death was linked to the row over the Bollywood movie Padmavati.
“We don’t just hang effigies. Padmavati”, said the message in Hindi.
The man has been identified as Chetan Saini, a 40-year-old local resident, who ran a jewelry and handicrafts business from home. Saini left home on Thursday afternoon and last spoke to his wife at 5.30 pm, a police officer said.
An investigation is on to find out whether it was suicide or murder, said Satyendra Singh, DCP Jaipur (North).
Singh said there were things written in Hindi on the rocks nearby, which are linked to Padmavati. “We will probe whose handwriting it is and who has written it,” he had said.
Hours after the mysterious death of a man with threat notes engraved at the Jaipur’s Nahargarh Fort on Friday, brother of the deceased believes the victim was murdered and demanded a probe into the matter.

“My brother cannot commit suicide, it appears to be a murder. Will demand an investigation into the death. He has nothing to do with it (threat note written on rocks #Padmavati ),” said Ram Ratan Saini, brother of the deceased.

Chetan, a resident of Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar, was found hanging on the ramparts of the fort with threat messages. One message read ‘Padmavati ka Virodh’ and other one said ‘we don’t burn effigies, we hang people’. Another message saying ‘Chetan Tantrik mara gaya’ was also written near the body. Each message was linked to the most controversial Padmavati row.
The incident came to light when morning walkers saw the body hanging some 500 feet above the ground and informed the police. It was presumed that the man had committed suicide, but on checking the spot and seeing the messages the police are suspecting some foul play.
Police are investigating whether it’s a suicide or a murder.
Before his death, the deceased, Chetan Saini, had taken selfies which are intact. Police have handed the phone over to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) for examination. They have also asked FSL to find out if the deceased had uploaded any videos online.
Police found a mobile phone in one of his trouser pockets along with other things, including his wallet. “When we checked, it was found that the deceased had taken some selfies with Nahargarh fort walls as the backdrop. We immediately handed over the phone to the FSL team for analysis,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Prafful Kumar on Friday.
Police claimed that all the selfies were taken on Thursday in the sunlight and were clear.
They will also check to see if the man was in an inebriated condition. “He reached the Nahargarh fort area at 4 pm on Thursday evening and was found dead on Friday morning. The post-mortem and other medical examination will help to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol or not,” said a senior police officer.
There have been rumors that the death of Chetan Saini is not a suicide, but a murder. It is still unclear whether the heinous deed was done by the supporters of Padmavati or its opposers.
