BJP and Congress controversy crushed with one single tweet

The BJP and the Congress have been going for the other’s throat. The latest topic on whether Rahul Gandhi is a Hindu or Christian has been slammed by this one tweet.

With one sarcastic tweet, MIM chief and all-around gadfly Asaduddin Owaisi nailed the BJP and the Congress for what he believes is their hypocrisy in branding him “communal” even as they attempt to bask in their “nationalist” and “secular” halos, respectively.

After a controversy arose yesterday on whether Congress vice president considers himself Hindu, his party was at pains to shout from the rooftops that he is indeed of the faith, even as the BJP wasted no time in saying he was “fooling people” by “pretending” to be Hindu.

Here’s what Owaisi had to say about that:

Owaisi’s tweet came on an evening when it was alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s name was entered in a register for “non-Hindus” during a visit to Somnath temple yesterday. The Congress said there was no such entry and if there were, it was the BJP’s doing.

The BJP jumped up and down gleefully claiming they’d been saying all along Rahul was “Christian”, as BJP MP Subramanian Swamy alleged. They said he shouldn’t be visiting temples and fooling people, as BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted:

Then, in damage control mode, Congress spokesman RS Surjewala called a press conference to convince everyone that Rahul wasn’t just a Hindu, he was card-carrying – or sacred thread-wearing – Hindu, that is, a high caste (Brahmin) Hindu.

While all this drama was playing out, Owaisi couldn’t help but remember the times the BJP and the Congress called him communal for talking about Muslim interests.

Why, just in July, the BJP said Owaisi represents a “perverted, mean and communal mindset” in Indian politics because he had said that “Parliament and Assemblies pass laws against Muslims”.

For saying that, the BJP also wanted the Election Commission to step in and take action against Owaisi.

“They have been in competition with pseudo-secular parties like the Congress and many others of the same ilk. All of them have been competing with each other to appease the Muslim vote bank for the sake of their politics,” said BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao.
