Three members of a family held for stealing gold jewellery from 15 women
Three members of a family in Chennai for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from 15 women during a recent temple festival in Tuticorin.
Gold jewellery, weighing a total of 52 sovereigns and worth over Rs 10 lakh, was recovered from the trio. A car used by the accused was also seized.
The accused have been identified as K Subramani, 65, of Bethel Nagar in Injambakkam in Chennai, his son S Subash, 25, and daughter P Suji, 29.
Police said they trio had targeted women who participated in the temple festival a few months ago and stole their gold jewellery.
Tuticorin district superintendent of police P Mahendran formed a special team to nab the accused. The team conducted inquiries in various places in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Finally, the accused were traced to Chennai and arrested.
