MNS workers vandalise Congress’ Mumbai regional office
The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Friday morning barged into the Congress office near Azad Maidan and vandalised it. Congress city chief and former MP Sanjay Nirupam termed the vandalism as MNS’ workers frustration of being beaten up by the hawkers last week.
Unidentified people barged into the Congress office Mumbai, which is located around 25 metres away from the Azad Maidan police station, at around 11am. The suspects smashed the window glasses and ransacked the office. Soon after getting information about the incident, a police team arrived at the spot and took three people in custody. Policemen in large number were then deployed near the Congress office. The police have also got the CCTV footage and was scanning it to identify the culprits.
After the incident, MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande claimed the responsibility and tweeted, “It’s a surgical strike at the office of Bhaiyya Sanjay Nirupam. Eet ka jawab Pathhar se milega. (Tit for tat).”
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam who is in Gujarat tour for assembly election campaign condemned the incident blamed police. “Congress office is at Azad Maidan and hardly 25 meter away police station. So what was police doing while they attack.”
He appealed to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis who is also in charge of Home department that he should take action against MNS party workers. “The CM should take immediate action against the MNS party workers, else Congress also knows how to react.” Nirupam also taunted MNS saying, “I wanted to tell the MNS that this is neither the politics nor ‘Gundagiri’, but a cheap act.
