NEW DELHI: In a strange incident, a Kannur resident on Thursday spent lakhs of rupees on getting his own obituary printed, and then vanished.
77-year-old Thalipparamb Kuttikkol native Joseph Melikkunnel on Wednesday sent his obituary to all leading dailies and then disappeared.
The newspapers carried the piece on Thursday when it turned out that the report of the death was ‘fake news,’ and that the man was actually missing.
The advertisement said that Melikkunnel was a patient at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) where he was being treated for a brain tumour.
However, his family members were not aware of this, and the RCC also rejected the claim.
The case is currently under investigation by the police.
