The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority on Sunday denied Al Houthis’ allegations of launching a missile towards the UAE.
The denial came as heavy fighting in Yemen’s capital unraveled a rebel alliance that has been at war with a Saudi-led coalition, including the UAE.
In a statement issued to the official news agency WAM on Sunday, the authority said the UAE’s air defense system is capable of dealing with a threat of any kind.
The Barakah nuclear power plant is immune to all possibilities and is equipped with all the security and nuclear safety systems required for such giant national projects, it said.
The authority reassured the UAE citizens and residents that the county’s atmosphere is safe and stressed that the UAE will always be secure and safe.
The statement called on the public not to pay attention to misleading rumors being circulated by the anti-UAE media, which are aimed at spreading false news in order to question the capabilities of the UAE, its strength, and security.
The Yemeni rebels have been clashing in the capital, Sanaa, for five consecutive days with supporters of Yemen’s former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, an ally-turned adversary.
The Saudi-led coalition launched air strikes on Sanaa overnight on Sunday, local media said, lending support to loyalists of Saleh after he signaled a strategy shift that could pave the way to end the war.
In a speech on Saturday, Saleh appeared to indicate the end of his loyalists’ alliance with Iran-backed Houthi fighters, saying he was ready to turn a “new page” in ties with the Saudi-led coalition.
