Lebanese PM Saad al-Hariri revokes resignation

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has formally revoked his resignation after reaching a consensus political agreement with rival parties.

Several media reports stated that the announcement came at the end of the first Cabinet meeting to be held since Lebanon plunged into a political crisis post Hariri’s unexpected resignation.

Hariri, who heads a coalition government that includes ministers from the Hezbollah, said all members of the government had agreed to stay out of conflicts in Arab countries.

The Lebanese government, in a statement read by Hariri, said: “The cabinet thanks its leader (Hariri) for his position and for revoking his resignation.”

On November 4, Hariri had announced his resignation from Saudi capital, Riyadh, citing threat to his life.

President Michel Aoun had asked him to “put it on hold ahead of further consultations.”

Aoun had said he would not accept Hariri’s resignation unless he presented it in person.

The Lebanese President had said at the time Hariri was being held against his will in Riyadh, a claim Hariri denied. He eventually paid visit to Paris, Cairo and Cyprus before landing in Beirut.
