Gujarat Polls 2017 : Opinion survey by Times Now-VMR ,See the Results
An opinion survey conducted by Times Now-VMR predicts an easy win for the BJP in Gujarat Assembly election, but the party will fall short of its ambitious 150-seat mark.
The BJP is expected to secure 111 seats in the 182-member House, while the Congress, backed by Hardik Patel’s will finish a distant second with 68 seats, seven more than what it bagged in the previous state polls. Other parties finish at the bottom of the table with only 3 seats apiece.
The survey results reveal that the BJP’s vote-share has declined by 3 per cent and the Congress has increased its vote-share by 1 per cent since the 2012 election.
The ruling BJP leads the pack in all four regions of Gujarat. The forecast sees the saffron party bettering its performance in Central and South Gujarat, but losing 5 per cent of its vote share in North Gujarat, where Congress is resurgent. The results also point to a close fight between the BJP and Congress in the Kutch-Saurashtra region.
Chief minister Vijay Rupani continues to remain popular in the state, with 36 per cent respondents supporting the incumbent’s return as head of the state government.
Further, majority of people retain faith in the Modi model of development and believe that the state has benefited from big projects like the Sardar Sarovar dam, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister amid much fanfare earlier this year.
A total of 6,000 interviews were conducted on 684 polling booths across all four regions of Gujarat with a plus-minus margin of 3 per cent. The study was conducted from November 23 to November 30, 2017 and covered eligible voters of all age groups, gender and the urban/rural divide.
The polling for the two-phase elections will take place on December 9 and 14, and votes will be counted on December 18.
