A cab driver has committed to suicide by hanging at his residence in Benniganahalli near Byappanahalli, east Bangalore, on Tuesday night, after recording video messages wherein he accused a bank of harassing him for not paying home loan dues.
Anil R, 27, son of Rajanna, had recorded two videos minutes before taking the extreme step. He is survived by his wife Savitha whom he married two years ago. The couple has a one-year-old daughter. Anil was found hanging by his father around 8.30pm.
Byappanahalli police have registered a case of unnatural death. “He hasn’t mentioned any specific incident that forced him to take the extreme step. A detailed probe will reveal the exact reason,” an officer said.
In the first 1.16-minute video, Anil is seen explaining the reason for his suicide.”We cannot ignore parents or wife or children. But, they are not the reason for my suicide. I’m going to commit suicide only because of bank loan. Think before getting the loan. Don’t get stuck in the net of loans. The loan providers would die for interest.” In the second video that runs for 59 seconds, he’s warning friends against borrowing money from banks.
His father Rajanna told police that his son had borrowed Rs 4 lakh from SBI’s Nagavara Palya branch a few years ago and the officials threatened him that they would auction his house if he failed to pay dues.
“The bank officials said they’ve served legal notice to Anil but denied any threat to the customer,” police said.
