Hardly a month for the New Year, Kochi has come under the spotlight as the latest hub on the rave map. The city police have launched an operation on drug peddlers and party planners who have zeroed in on Kochi.
The gangs and others are about to set an arena in Kochi like clampdown on usual destinations such as Bengaluru and Goan towns. The city shadow police and cops in the central station have busted a gang of peddlers based in south Tamil Nadu as part of the ‘Operation Duster’ planned to hunt down the shady trade ahead of the New Year.
More than 300 ampules of buprenorphine and about 30 nitrazepam pills have been seized from the duo. The party planners had initially planned to transport revelers from Kochi and surroundings in special buses to the raves in Karnataka and Goa but heightened security in both states have prompted them to change their strategy and throw parties in Kochi itself.
The raves are planned in hotels and private apartments, according to a report received by city police commissioner MP Dinesh. The party planners connect with potential clients on various social media platforms.
