Posing as CBI officer, Youth dupes and rapes woman

A 27-year-old youth managed to befool a Bhopal girl and her family by pretending to be a DSP and an undercoverĀ CBIĀ agent in a shocking case of matrimonial website fraud.

Police detained the youth on Monday and recovered a uniform having the insignia of a DIG rank officer in addition to three seals of government offices.

The youth has allegedly also raped the 24-year-old CAT aspirant multiple times on the pretext of marriage.

Investigation officer SI R P Singh said that the accused Samir Anwar Khan who belongs to Varanasi, currently lives in Thane.

Samir is an M Tech student. SI Singh said that the woman in her complaint said that her father had created her profile on an online matrimonial website about three months ago.

They came across Samir’s profile on the website, where he had mentioned that he is a DSP and an undercover CBI agent. His uncle called her father and the family was introduced to Samir. As per the wishes of the woman’s family, their marriage was almost finalised.

On October 22, Samir came to Bhopal and was staying at a high-end hotel near Lalghati. The woman said that he called her to his hotel room and raped her. He returned in November and allegedly married her at the same hotel in the presence of a ‘Qazi’.

He also told the woman that he has cleared the UPSC exams and was selected for IPS. He lured her into his trap and took Rs 2 lakh from her on the pretext of going to Hyderabad for training in the IPS Academy.

After a few days he returned. This time, he stayed at the survivor’s house. However, after living with him for a few days, the survivor started suspecting him. Despite repeated requests from her family, Samir did not invite his family to Bhopal.

Samir also lied that his father was a well-off garment merchant in Mumbai and his uncle was a senior police officer with Mumbai Anti-Terrorist-Squad.

He also claimed that many of his family members were in the judiciary. He never wore any uniform while going out of the house saying that being an undercover agent; he wears uniform only while going to the meetings. Finally, on Monday when the accused denied the survivor’s request of getting their marriage registered, she called the police.

Police recovered a uniform bearing the insignia of DIG rank officer along with three seals including that of CBI, Ministry of Personnel Public Grievances & Pensions Government of India and his seal of undercover agent of CBI, ACB Hyderabad. Police also recovered some documents of RGPV University bearing his seal.
