1) The inaugural edition of the cricketing jamboree will perhaps be remembered more for the ‘slapgate’ involving Kings XI Punjab pacer S. Sreesanth and Mumbai Indians’ offie Harbhajan Singh. The video footage – the pacer sobbing and his teammates consoling him – became one of the long-lasting images of the opening edition. 2) Preity Zinta accused Ness Wadia of molesting and threatening her at Wankhede Stadium during one of the IPL games. Zinta lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Wadia of threatening to kill her.
3) The RCB skipper Virat Kohli breached BCCI’s anti-corruption guidelines when he stepped out of players’ area to meet actress Anushka Sharma during the rain break of an IPL match. Kohli escaped the offence with a verbal warning.
4) A cheerleader named Gabriella Pasqualotto created quite a stir in the fourth edition of the IPL after she opened up about deplorable conduct of cricketers at post-match parties. She was sacked from her role as cheerleader by the IPL.
5) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) slapped a penalty notice of approximately Rs 100 crore against IPL team Rajasthan Royals. The penalty order said the probe agency found that foreign investment in Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited (JIPL) was made in “flagrant contravention of FEMA” and the investment made in this regard was made “much prior to the incorporation of JIPL”.
6)Delhi police arrested Rajasthan Royals trio of Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for their indulgence in spot-fixing. The cricketers were handed life bans.
7) IPL 2012 hit the headlines when Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Luke Pomersbach was arrested for allegedly molesting an Indian-American woman. The Australian batsman was said to have misbehaved with the woman after drinking with her in a room. (BCCL)
8) Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli had a verbal duel during the 2013 IPL match between their respective teams — Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Bangalore Challengers.
9) The fourth season of the IPL saw the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dumping Ganguly after his base price reportedly increased from $200,000 to $400,000. The southpaw was later bought by the Pune Warriors as a late replacement for injured Ashish Nehra
10) Pune Warriors owner Sahara Adventure Sports Ltd announced its withdrawal from the IPL in the controversy-marred year. The move came after BCCI decided to encash Sahara’s bank guarantee after it failed to pay the full franchise fee for the year.
