Is Sunny Leone an assault on city’s culture?

Karenjit Kaur Vohra, known by her stage name Sunny Leone, is a Canadian-born Indian-American actress and model, currently active in Indian film industry. She is a former pornstar. Undoubtedly she is the sexiest and gorgeous wanted woman in India.

She may not have had the success she’d have hoped for in Bollywood but when it comes to internet searches, Sunny Leone has been the undisputed queen. Google’s most searched people in 2017 also features her name on the top list.

Here comes a big protest against her regarding her new year event in Karnataka.

A pro-Kannada organization took out a march against Bollywood actress Sunny Leone’s scheduled visit to the city. She will be in Bengaluru on December 31 for a New Year’s Eve show. The protesters say that it would be an “assault” on the city’s culture. Actress Sunny Leone’s scheduled performance at a private event for New Year’s Eve has been thoroughly criticised by them.

Bollywood bombshell Sunny Leone is famous for many things, some of which unacceptable for the Kannada culture. And “barely clad women performing” is one of those things. The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Yuvasene have raised objection towards Leone performing at a private event scheduled for the New Years Eve in their city and had planned a protest against it at Maurya Circle.The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) also staged a demonstration and burnt the pictures of Leone. They demanded the cancellation of her programme.

The state president of the pro-Kannada group also acknowledged that it was a private event, but said that didn’t matter. “It’s a private event and the tickets are expensively priced,” he said. “It includes alcohol and other things. Such companies can continue working in the state if they show due respect.” Incidentally, there were no protests or opposition to any of Sunny Leone’s previous visits to the city. Apart from her private visits, the actress visited Bengaluru for movie shootings and has appeared in Sandalwood movies including Luv U Alia, DK, an Indian Kannada satirical film which was directed by Vijay Kampali in 2015. The 36-year-old actress recently made headlines after there were speculations regarding Tollywood debut and was said to be in talks with many prominent filmmakers of the South.

In 2012 she made her Bollywood debut in Pooja Bhatt’s erotic thriller Jism 2 (2012) and shifted her focus to mainstream acting which was followed up with Jackpot (2013), Ragini MMS 2 (2014) and Ek Paheli Leela (2015).

Apart from her acting career she has been part of activism campaigns including the Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Half-Marathon to raise money for the American Cancer Society and has also posed for a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ad campaign with a rescued dog, encouraging pet owners to have their cats and dogs spayed and neutered.

Sunny Leone and husband Daniel Weber, who married in 2012, adopted Nisha from an orphanage in Latur (Maharashtra) in July 2017.

Once comedian Kapil Sharma refused to invite her on his show because of her past as an adult star, and that his show has a lot of family audience But after Sunny came to the show with Ekta Kapoor to promote Ragini MMS2.

Ragini MMS2 created a lot of controversies as it had a kiss scene with female star Sandhya Mridul. Activists of a religious group started campaign against sunny on that.

In 2016, a complaint was filed against her in India over singing the national anthem incorrectly at a sports event.
