Recently Madhya Pradesh had passed the law of death sentence for rapists. This new law is now taken up in another state.
Close on the heels of the Madhya Pradesh assembly passing a bill providing for a death sentence to those convicted of raping girls aged 12 or less, the Rajasthan government is contemplating bringing a similar bill.
Rajasthan home minister Gulab Chand Kataria said a bill will be brought in the budget session of the assembly providing for death penalty for rape of minors. “The government is currently studying the Madhya Pradesh model,” he added. The Madhya Pradesh assembly had passed the bill on December 4. It proposes death penalty or jail term ranging from 14 years to life imprisonment for raping girls aged 12 or less.
