Man lands up in jail, complained by children and family

Abuse, be it physical, mental or sexual, it is a crime- a punishable offense. That is what this father received for his crime.

A 57-year-old Iranian retiree, accused of threatening to burn his two daughters if they stepped inside his house, was sentenced to three months in jail.

The Court of First Instance found the man guilty of making criminal threats against his family and ordered his deportation after serving his jail time.

The court was earlier told the accused made the criminal threats against his daughters in April this year. He had pleaded, however, not guilty in court. “No. That is not true. The whole thing is because of a dispute I have with their mother. She incited them against me,” he then claimed to the presiding judge. “She deprived me of my other house. She wanted this one too.”

A complaint was lodged at Al Qusais police station.

The first complainant, a 31-year-old stateless (employee), said she had just come back from work to her house in Oud Al Muteena with her sister when the accused forced them outside. “He then shut the main door and we heard him saying that he would burn us if we tried to go inside.”

Her 24-year-old sister, also a stateless employee, gave a similar statement during probe.

It is understood from a recorded conversation between a man and a woman, which was presented to the public prosecution, that the two parties had been having some familial disputes.

The retiree may still appeal the conviction within 15 days.
