Dubai: awards handed out to the best smart app by the public services

The society is coming up with many new and innovative methods to inform and better the people’s lives in any manner. This is possible with technology and apps.

Dubai Municipality’s smart app was announced as the winner of the 2017 Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart Government Award.

On Tuesday evening, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, officially handed over the ‘Hamdan Flag’ to Dubai Municipality officials for the Montaji app (My product) that was launched in August.

The municipality will get to keep the flag for an entire year.

Montaji enables consumers to confirm the information and safety of all consumer products (cosmetics, perfumes, supplements, detergents, and biocides) available in Dubai markets.

Through the app, consumers can confirm if the product is registered and compliant with the Dubai Municipality regulations, just by scanning the bar-code of the product.

The app won the title based on a set of standards covering effectiveness and efficiency, sustainability, and the degree to which it adheres to smart city plans.

Montaji app was among the eight finalists by popular vote on the Dubai The Model Center (DTCM) website – part of the Dubai Executive Council – out to 117 government initiatives that participated in this year’s awards.

During the award ceremony, a judging panel asked questions to representatives of each of the projects before deciding on the winner by the end of the night.

The competition is part of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Programme for Smart Government 2017.

This year’s nominees included Dewa’s One Step initiative; Robotic Process Automation – Smart Refund by the Dubai Customs; Montaji by the Dubai Municipality; Dubai Health Authority’s Dammi Application; RTA’s Smart Transportation initiative; Female Responder by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services; Community Airport Application by the Dubai Airports; and Dubai Expert by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism).

The finalists went through a series of evaluations – including one-on-one interviews – before being shortlisted for the public vote.

A jury of 28 expert judges from 12 countries around the world, specialised in different sectors, evaluated submissions against international standards, developing comprehensive perceptions of the impact of these services in the short and long terms, and measuring the performance indicators of each initiative, in accordance with the methodology of the Dubai model to improve government services.

Launched in 2013, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart Government Award is the first and most prestigious honor to recognize public services in Dubai.
