Indian National Congress (INC) president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Dubai has been tentatively postponed to early next year, revealed local party sources on Sunday.
The 47-year-old leader of the primary opposition party in India was due for a visit to the UAE after attending the Biennial International Convention of GOPIO (Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin), a global networking platform for Indian businessmen in Bahrain.
Postponing the visit would ‘give local authorities and party workers enough time to arrange for Gandhi’s visit in a slightly bigger way’ was the reason cited for the change in date.
The workers also cited ‘technical reasons’ for postponing the visit. Mahadevan Vazhasseri, president of Overseas Indian Cultural Society, also known as INCAS, an Indian community with allegiance to INC and Punakkan Muhammed Ali, general secretary of the organization issued a joint statement stating that discussions on the final date of his arrival are still underway.
“We’re in talks with members of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and local authorities to organize the visit hopefully early next year. but this decision too, is pending several official confirmations,” added Vazhasseri.
A few members of AICC were expected to visit the UAE on December 26 to inspect the venues where a public meeting could be held, added Ali.
