30 year old woman raped inside child locked cab

Day by day our society getting ridiculous on the subject of women, still our educated society is nothing to do for the betterment of women here is a story that  The horrifying incident of rape in Vrajeshwari — wherein a cabbie activated a child lock before raping a 30-year-old woman – has yet again exposed the blind eye that the traffic and the RTO personnel turn towards hundreds of private car operators who are illegally ferrying passengers in and out of the twin-cities on a share-a-cab basis.

The hapless victim had boarded the white colored Swift Dezire tourist permit vehicle at Kashimira Naka to ride to Thane on the assumption that it was a shared cab. The accused Suresh Pandurang Gosavi (32) and the accomplice, Umesh Zaala, a graphic designer, were already seated in the car. Assuming it to be a shared cab, the woman did not raise questions about Zaala’s presence.

Gosavi stopped the car near Chena Bridge on the Ghodbunder-Thane road and on the pretext of fixing a knocking sound, engaged the child lock system so that the doors don’t open. Gosavi then took a U-turn and bought beer before heading to Vrajeshwari where he parked the car on an isolated stretch and raped the woman after threatening her.

Zaala actively facilitated the crime. After forcefully extracting information about her ATM PIN, the duo robbed her belongings, including ornaments, mobile phone, debit card and Rs.6000 in cash before taking to her a lodge near Ganeshpuri at around 2 am. It was here that the victim raised an alarm.

According to the police, people rely too much on illegal operators and do not realize the hazard of traveling with unknown co-passengers, who could be gang members waiting for their next target. “We will intensify our vigil for such operators,” said an official attached to the traffic wing. From all reckoning, many illegal cabbies are plying on the road. While the lack of efficient public transport has added to the woes, several such crimes go unreported, sources said.

Meanwhile, taxi aggregator Ola has dismissed reports of the gang-rape in one of its cabs on December 19. Ola claims that the driver had not logged in on the Ola platform for the last four-five days and he was not on any kind of Ola duty at the time of the alleged incident.
