Dense fog; Actress misses degree event

It is very strange thing according to an actor canceling a flight which is for an unavoidable event. It was a disappointing day for Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra as well as Bareilly residents after Chopra’s private jet didn’t get clearance to fly here from IGI Airport in Delhi due to dense fog.

While waiting at the airport, the actor kept posting messages on Instagram and Twitter. Moments after her first tweet, ‘Bareilly’ remained among the top trends on Twitter throughout the day in India. Chopra was supposed to reach Bareilly by air to attend the ceremony at Bareilly International University, where she was to receive an honorary doctorate in fine arts. Along with her mother Madhu and brother Siddharth, she reached Delhi airport at 10 am and waited for clearance till 2:50 pm.

Chopra tweeted “weather gods and goddess, please do your thing and clear the skies…” After waiting for almost four hours, Priyanka tweeted, “I can’t believe the ATC won’t let me take off… My heart is breaking. This was supposed to be such a special moment…”
Bareilly residents too kept writing that they were waiting for her, while a few others thanked her for making Bareilly trend on the social media site. At the event, everyone hoped that the actor would make it.
Union minister for science and technology, Harsh Vardhan who was the chief guest at the ceremony said, “Like others, I too hoped that Priyanka would enter the auditorium during my long speech.”

A disheartened Chopra later released a video message for students and other guests to show how much she was “heartbroken”. “I am feeling proud to accept an honorary doctorate. I wanted to recall my sweet memories of the city. My father had put up rods around my house as his daughter had grown up. I could not throw my degree cap up in the air along with you but I am there with you in spirit.”
