Over 38,570 counterfeit products worth Dh8 million have been seized in Ajman. According to the Directorate of Control and Consumer Protection of the Department of Economic Development – Ajman (DED-Ajman), the confiscated items were knock-offs of 34 international brands.
They were seized during two raids conducted by the Commercial Fraud Department of the DED-Ajman in cooperation with the Ajman Police and a trademarks representative.
“The inspections are part of the DED-Ajman’s continuing commitment towards combatting the proliferation of counterfeit goods. It also complements the department’s move to protect local consumers – which is a top priority for the DED-Ajman,” the department said in a Press statement.
Majed Al Suwaidi, director, customer relations department, DED-Ajman, said the inspection will continue as part of a broader strategy to seize illegal goods and take legal actions against violators.
“These programmes are in line with the department’s mandate to create a fair investment environment for consumers, which is also seen as an important element in economic growth.”
Al Suwaidi stressed the DED-Ajman’s commitment towards imposing stiff penalties to reduce or totally stop counterfeiting and commercially fraudulent activities.
