In a recent development, India will seek Consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav, although his wife and mother were allowed to meet him in Pakistan jail.
Earlier, India rejected Pakistan foreign minister Khawaja Asif’s claim that by allowing India’s deputy high commissioner J P Singh to accompany the two women, Pakistan had allowed consular access to the alleged Indian spy in Pakistan’s custody. In fact, his own ministry contradicted his claim of allowing consular access and said that no such access was allowed.
long been objecting to Pakistan’s claims of Jadhav being a spy, India has claimed that death sentence to Jadhav is a premeditated murder by Pakistan and that Jadhav is being denied even the basic legal rights which he deserves.
Indian officials said that even International Court of Justice has stayed the sentence and spoke about India’s right to have consular access in line with Vienna Convention.
Pakistan though continues to use Jadhav’s passport, which bears the name Hussein Mubarak Patel, to buttress its claim that Jadhav was an Indian spy involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan. Pakistani foreign office spokesperson Muhammad Faisal said after the meeting on Monday that the “Indian silence is telling”.
