Magenta Line opening: Two cops suspended after PM, Yogi got stuck in traffic for 2-2.5 minutes

Two cops were suspended for negligence in security during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Noida on December 25 to inaugurate the Delhi Metro’s, Magenta Line. The policemen took PM Narendra Modi’s convoy to a wrong route instead of the planned one, leading to a major security lapse. PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath got stuck in a traffic jam for ‘two to two and a half minutes’ because of the security breach.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Love Kumar on Wednesday suspended sub-inspector Dilip Singh and constable Dayanand of Dankaur police station. They were in an anti-demolition vehicle that was leading PM Modi’s conclave. They took a wrong turn and the change in route led PM Modi’s conclave into the stream of traffic on the Noida expressway. The cavalcade slowed down there and remained on the expressway for 200 meters before it turned back into its original route.

“The driver and the in charge of the driver who was in an anti-demo vehicle leading the PM’s fleet took a cut 500 meters prior to the designated cut and reached the expressway route from a service lane. Though the route was same, the wrong cut resulted in the PM’s fleet getting stuck in traffic for two to two and a half minutes. Since the fleet was of VVIP, we initiated an inquiry and suspended the two policemen,” said Kumar.

Due to the security lapse that happened between 2.35 pm and 3 pm, PM Narendra Modi reached the Botanical Garden helipad from Amity University public ground 10 minutes after he was supposed to. To reach the helipad from the varsity, 6km away, the cavalcade was supposed to take the service lane of the expressway. But Singh and Jaipal drove on to the main expressway instead of taking the earlier left turn. CM Yogi Adityanath, who was present during the security breach, has reportedly given a dressing down to the officials and sought an explanation.

PM Modi on Monday inaugurated the new 12.64 km section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line and along with Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and CM Yogi Adityanath took a ride on the train.
