In a good news of sort, HMD Global has confirmed that their entry-level Nokia 2 smartphone will receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update. Company’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas tweeted confirming the news and also said that the smartphone will receive many of the memory management improvements which were introduced in Google’s Android Go programme.
“Hi! It (Nokia 2) will receive Android Oreo. 1GB RAM devices will be supported on 8.1 release where many of the Android Go memory management improvements will be integrated. Nokia 2 performance will only get better over time!” Sarvikas tweeted. However, he did not specify when the update will be rolled out for the smartphone.
The company started rolling out Android Oreo update for its devices starting with their flagship smartphone, the Nokia 8. The device received a stable Oreo update last month after a beta update under the Nokia Phones beta labs program. Soon after, HMD Global started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo beta build for its Nokia 5 smartphone and the Nokia 6 is also slated to receive the update soon.
The Nokia 2 smartphone features a 5-inch LTPS HD display with a 1280 x 720p resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 platform clocked at 1.3GHz, coupled with 1GB of RAM. The device sports an 8MP rear camera with an LED flash and comes with a 5MP front camera. It is backed by a 4000mAh non-removable battery, which the company claims can deliver up to two days of backup on a single charge. The phone runs on stock Android Nougat and is also stated to get two monthly security updates.
