Students of Top Colleges caught with Drugs

Narcotics Contro Bureau’s precautionary measures before New Year Celebrations seem to hit a jackpot as they caught students of top colleges in the city with more than 1 kilogram of charas and LSD blotters.

Sam Mallick is from JNU, Gaurav Kumar and Tenzin Phunchog from Hindu College and Anirud Mathur from Amity University, police said.

“For the last few months, NCB Delhi Zonal unit has been receiving inputs about drug peddling and intense abuse of drugs around institutional areas like Delhi University, Jawaharlal University and Amity University,” said S K Jha, DDG, NCB.

There is a rising concern among the police officials about the rising consumption of drugs among students, and talking about the same DG NCB Rina Mitra said that he had directed the Delhi Zonal Unit to keep a strict vigil.

NCB Delhi Unit, in a focused approach, began developing intelligence inputs regarding drug peddling on the campus areas of these institutions.

On December 28, the team received information that LSD blotters will be shipped through DTDC courier to Jaipur for the upcoming new year celebrations.

Acting on the information, NCB, Delhi reached the DTDC office at Vijay Nagar and seized the consignment having three LSD blotters.

In the follow-up action, 1.140 kgs charas was recovered from Gaurav Kumar and three other persons viz; Sam Mallick, Aniruddh Mathur and Tenzin Phunchog, who have been apprehended.

During interrogation they revealed that they are students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Amity University and Delhi University (Hindu College).

Further investigation and interrogation revealed that Gaurav Kumar, student of Hindu college, has been into drug peddling in and around the North Campus area.

“He procures the charas (Hashish) from one NeelChand of Himachal Pradesh and sells them to students and others in the North Campus area. He also revealed that he had booked the parcel containing LSD to Jaipur through one of his friends viz; Sam Mallick who is a student of JNU,” the DDG said.

Gaurav Kumar, along with Aniruddh Mathur and Tenzin Phunchog went to Himachal Pradesh on December 24.

They stayed at a village named Choj at a home stay which is Neelchand’s House. It is pertinent to mention that NeelChand is a kingpin of drug trafficking racket operating from Himachal Pradesh and is already wanted in a case of NCB, Delhi.

They went to different villages such as Choj, Kalga, Kherganga, Malana and abused charas during the trip. Gaurav Kumar is a student of Hindu College, Delhi University.
Aniruddh Mathur, Tenzin Phunchog and Sam Mallick are all abusers of charas and used to get it from Gaurav. They have also informed that abuse of drugs is rampant in the Delhi University campus area.

They have given information about drug peddlers and others involved in the racket which is further being verified.

Further investigation of the case is going on and NCB, Delhi Zone is committed to fight against the abuse and peddling of drugs specially in and around the institutional campus areas.
