Ahead of the visit of the US Adviser Ivanka Trump in November last year, Hyderabad Police launched a massive drive to relocate beggars from the city streets. The police relocated over 400 beggars to shelter homes conveniently away from the venue of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017.
Telangana Prisons Department department is taking this drive a step further. In a bid to make Hyderabad ‘beggar free’, the department has announced a reward of Rs 500 to anyone who spots a beggar in the city and informs it to the officials.
Here’s what Telangana Prisons Department DG VK Singh told the media, as reported by ANI:
If anybody spots a beggar on the street and give information about him to the authorities then he would get a reward of Rs 500 on the next day itself.
Interestingly, the department has already found a person to the make payment. Saikrishna informed the department about beggars near Venkatramana theatre in Hyderabad’s Kacheguda area. Upon receiving the information, the department relocated six beggars to rehab centres.
The Telangana Prisons Department has started ‘Vidyadanam Programme’ under which they would provide education and employment to beggars. Apart from this, the department would also get six petrol pumps and six new Ayurvedic villages constructed to employ the skilled beggars. The unskilled beggars, on the other hand, would be given training in Anand Ashram.
According to reports, 741 male beggars and 311 female beggars have been identified and picked up from the roads so far.
“Very soon we would provide a place, where a beggar can stay with their family. Our objective is to provide wholesome life to the beggars and ensure that nobody is left on the street in our state,” Singh added.
