Yogi Adityanath’ government oversees Haj house renovations

Showing his love and dedication to his party, BJP, Yogi Adityanath had painted his office in the saffron color. But hasn’t it gone a bit too far now?

The Haj House in Lucknow, used by Muslims as a transit place on their way to pilgrimage in Mecca, is now saffron in color.

The green-and-white exterior wall of the Haj House in the Uttar Pradesh capital has been painted saffron, with many Opposition parties and Muslims objecting to the move, and accusing the government of a deliberate provocation by raising religious sentiments.

Since assuming power in March last year as state Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath has pursued his “saffron” agenda, quite literally. In October 2017, the office of the saffron-robed UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow got a touch of saffron.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri Bhawan, known as the secretariat annex building which houses the chief minister’s office as well as those of senior officials, was painted in saffron color replacing the traditional white and blue.

The Chief Minister, referred to as Maharaj Ji by his disciples, is clad in saffron-colored outfits and according to sources after he took over, the towels which cover his chair and curtains of his office were also changed to colors matching the saffron hue.

The towels in the office of the Chief Minister on the fifth floor of the building are of a saffron hue and the curtains, though not saffron in color are close to it, the sources said.

The CM had last year flagged off a fleet of 50 saffron-colored buses and even the stage for the inauguration was decorated with saffron-colored curtains and balloons.

Besides this, the education department had distributed saffron-colored school bags to primary schools students and the booklets that were distributed to mark 100 days and six months of the Adityanath government were saffron in color as well.

The various booklets and posters issued by the Uttar Pradesh government’s public relations department and ministries these days have elements of saffron on its pages.

The painting of the Haj House into saffron comes two days after the Yogi government ordered the madrassas in his state to reduce the number of holidays on Muslim festivals, and remain closed on Hindu festivals too.

Opposition parties and Muslims have raised an objection to the move.
