A large fire broke out at a Sharjah warehouse in the early hours of Sunday morning, destroying the building and six nearby shops. Goods worth millions were gutted in a massive fire that erupted in a warehouse in the new industrial area early on Wednesday morning. The blaze was quickly brought under control by the firefighters of the Sharjah Civil Defence. No causalities were reported in the incident.
Brig Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said the department received a call at 1.50am about the fire incident. A team of firefighters swung into action and reached the site in less than four minutes. The team – comprising firefighters of Al Jarf and industrial area fire stations – was provided help by the Sharjah Municipality which supplied water that doused the fire within 30 minutes.
He stressed that the Civil Defence, in coordination with the police department, will launch an intensified investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
Al Shamsi urged owners of the warehouses and industrial establishments to carry out regular maintenance of fire protection equipment and ensure the safety of electrical connections in the facilities, while avoiding improper storing of goods.
