It is not always that you can win a raffle ticket and gain the first prize. You need a bit of luck for that, and these winners seem to have it.
A resident from Pakistan has just made himself Dh3.6 million richer after hitting the jackpot in the latest draw in Dubai.
Muhammad Akbar Khan from Islamabad was declared the winner of US$1 million on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty-Free Millennium Millionaire draw.
Khan is the holder of the lucky ticket number 1915. Organisers of the draw, however, have yet to contact the winner, so no further details about him have been released yet.
Three other residents also got lucky after winning one luxury car and two motorbikes.
Tsubasa Mizogami, a Japanese national from Hanoi, Vietnam won a BMW i8 crystal white pearl car with ticket number 0549.
Clara Lasrado, an Indian national based in Dubai with ticket number 0789 also won a BMW S 1000 XR motorbike in ocean blue.
Lasrado had bought a Dubai Duty-Free raffle ticket for the second time on her way to India for holiday.
“It was an unexpected call and I was really surprised. Big thank you, Dubai Duty-Free.”
The second motorbike winner is Dmitri, a Russian national from St. Peterburg with ticket number 0157. He won a BMW R 1200 RS in frozen bronze black.
Dubai Duty-Free also awarded on Tuesday the cheque to the previous Millennium Millionaire winner Suleyman Cem Gunal.
Gunal is a Turkish national from Istanbul who won during the retailer’s 34th anniversary last month.
“I am thrilled to finally receive my winning and I thank Dubai Duty-Free for this wonderful gift,” he said.

Indian jackpot winner’s plans
It was third-time lucky alright for UAE-based Indian Hari Krishan, who won Dhs 12 million (roughly Rs 20.8 crore) on his third attempt at the Abu Dhabi international airport’s ‘big ticket’ lottery this weekend. The business developer first thought the calls about his win were a prank.
“I overlooked the first couple of calls… But later, when some radio stations and media persons started calling me, I asked my wife to check the lottery website, just in case. And she said we had actually won. We are still in disbelief,” Hari said over the phone from Abu Dhabi.
He is yet to decide how he would like to utilize the prize money, which he will receive on February 5. “I had purchased the 500 dirham ticket twice before. There were no real expectations about this one, but with God’s grace I turned out to be lucky. I’m thinking I’ll use the money for my post-retirement expenses and my kid’s education,” he said. Hari, one of eight siblings in an Alappuzha-based family, will be visiting his hometown on Friday.
