In a recent development on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie Padmavat, the Rajasthan High Court today said that it would like to watch the movie first before taking any decision on its release in the state. The Court has directed to screen the film for it before January 23.
The court was hearing the petition filed by the director of the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali seeking to quash an FIR lodged against him at Didwana in Merta in March last year. In his petition, Bhansali’s counsel Nishant Bora, said that since the name of the movie was changed from Padmavati to Padmavat, the FIR against the director becomes pointless, said
The Indian Express report. “We prayed to the court to allow us to release the film in Rajasthan,” said report quoting Bora. The report added that Justice Sandeep Mehta, hearing the petition, however, refused to pass any order before watching the film and asked the petitioner’s counsel to arrange a screening for the court.
“We sought some time from the court in order to take instructions from the petitioner and arrange the screening of the film. Allowing our plea, the court adjourned the hearing of the petition till January 23,” added the report, quoting Bora.
Earlier in March 2017, an FIR was filed with the Didwana police in which the complainants Virendra Singh and Nagpal Singh had sought action against Bhansali and two of the lead actors in the film, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
The controversy surrounding Padmaavat is refusing to die down, earlier today Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani refused to release the film in the state. Rupani while addressing the crowd said, ”Film Padmavat will not be released in Gujarat.” Padmaavat has been the most controversial film since its inception and it was heavily criticized for its content. Earlier today, when Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was asked whether the film will be released in the state or not he said, “Jo Kaha Tha, wo Hoga (What I had said, will happen).”
Earlier the film has received a clearance from the Central Board for Film Certification after the change of title and some changes in dialogues. But despite the alterations, the film has still failed to get a release in some states.
