What happened to the south Indian film which challenged Baahubali

Sangamithra is an upcoming two-part Indian Tamil language epic historical drama movie written and directed by Sundar C. The movie features Jayam Ravi and Arya in the lead roles. The movie is being made in Tamil and dubbed in Telugu and Hindi. The film is made in the cost 300 crores. It is said to a most expensive movie after Baahubali 2: The Conclusion which is made in the budget of 250 crores. The movie is produced by Hema Rukmani, N. Ramaswamy, and Murali Ramaswamy of Sri Thenandal Films.

The film’s music is composed by A.R. Rahman. The cinematography is handled by Aseem Mishra. The sound designer is Resul Pookuty. The movie is expected to be released in late 2018 and the second part will be released sometime in 2019.

A few days ago, it was rumored that Sundar C’s highly ambitious Sangamithra has been shelved. During the recently-held press meet on Kalakappu 2, the director commented on the situation and said, “Sangamithra is definitely not dropped. A film of that grandness and scale needs a perfect planning, and we, as a team, have been working on the pre-production for the past one year. It needs to have a proper storyboard, asset creation, before going for the shoot for this kind of films. The shoot will begin in April or May. Shooting is comparatively easy for Sangamithra than the pre-production. Sangamithra graphics work has already started and by keeping the digital images reference, we’d shoot.”
