The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has wielded its infamous ‘scissors’ on actor-director Salim Kumar’s family entertainer Daivame Kai Thozham K Kumarakanam.
Salim Kumar was forced to take out a scene featuring a cow from his film after the CBFC directed him to do so. Salim Kumar told that the CBFC asked him to remove the harmless scene though it does not hurt the religious or political sentiments of anyone.
Salim Kumar said, “Cow has just gone beyond our reason. You cannot even utter the word ‘cow’ or anything related to it. They say that if the cow is shown in a scene, then it would have communal meanings. I have no idea how a cow could provoke communal tension.” He added that he has no intention to challenge the CBFC’s decision in court as it would jeopardize the release of the movie. Salim Kumar is of the opinion that the situation in the country has turned so difficult that no one has the right to criticize anything.
“If things continue like this, then permission should be taken from others for you to live in this country. I had cows at my house ever since I was a kid. Now I grow five cows at home. But I have had the misfortune to edit out a harmless cow from my film,” said the actor.
Daivame Kai Thozham K Kumarakanam, starring Jayaram in the lead, was released on Friday.
