This year’s Kerala Budget amidst economic slowdown in the state

The Budget of 2018 will soon be presented by Finance minister of Kerala Thomas Isaac. The state is going through very bad phase economically with rising price of everyday goods. so there is a lot of expectation riding high on the budget to overcome this crisis.

In the 2017 budget government announced so many projects and funds for social welfare schemes. But now it is to be seen whether the government will cut down the funds.

Even the CPI which is an ally of CPIM has expressed their concern over the current financial condition of the state. While at the same time they have also expressed concern over the financial advisor of Cheif Minister Piunarayi Vijayan. The believes that the ideas of Geetha Gopinath are not suitable for a state like Kerala. Whether Thomas Isaac will give any heed to this opinion is yet to be seen.

In the last budget, the government took funds from KIIFB which was criticised by political opponents since there was no surety to the availability of funds from KIIFB.

As much of the projects announced in 2017 is still pending, Thomas Isaac might have to face a lot of criticism if he is no able to overcome the problems of his last budget.

Thomas Isaac was a supporter of the GST , but since it was not able to bring much revenue to the state which has resulted in high cost of many things including chicken.

This Years Budget is therefore a headache for the Finance mininster of the state.
