Ambulance driver dies after stranger pushes off from balcony following verbal spat

R Devaraj had potentially saved many lives as he was an ambulance driver in Bengaluru but had to pay with his life for throwing garbage on the road on Friday.

According to reports, twenty-nine-year-old Devaraj and two of his friends, Sunil and Santosh, met for dinner and drinks. After his friends left, Devaraj cleared up the food packets and liquor bottles and threw the garbage on the road in a plastic bag.

A verbal spat ensued between Devaraj and three people who were on the road. One of them rained abuses on Devaraj, and he retaliated. Soon, things escalated.

The trio went up to his apartment on the first floor. Devaraj reportedly informed his friends about the tiff in the meantime.

The verbal spat developed into a physical fight, and one of the three passersby and Devaraj pushed each other. During this, Devaraj fell off the balcony and died instantly owing to head injuries.

Police have registered an FIR based on Sunil’s complaint against an unidentified man. Efforts are on to nab the accused based on the CCTV footage of the incident.

“We’ve taken up a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) under the Indian Penal Code and are searching for the accused. Prima facie, it’s not an intentional killing. The accused and Devaraj were pushing each other when he fell over,” a policeman told The Times of India.

The height of the grill was only 2.5 feet. Police believe that if the grill was higher, the mishap could have been averted.

Based on the CCTV footage, police are on the lookout for a 30 to 35-year-old male. As he was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, they believe that the suspect is a resident of the locality.
