Amid riots and chaos, Padmaavat hit screens: Here is the first day gross collection

Finally, Padmaavat hit the screens yesterday & audience flocked the theaters to watch the most awaited period drama.

We had expected jam-packed theaters but since it was a working day, the occupancy was 60-65 percent. The release of Padmaavat was delayed for a long time but now that it has finally released, makers certainly want good numbers.

There were protests nationwide and so, the film failed to release in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa; this has hampered the screen count, which in turn has had a negative impact on the collections. Initially, the film had got around 5000 screens but since it didn’t release in 4-5 states, the screen count went down to 3500. Let us see what trade expert has said about the day 1 collections.

Yes, the movie has earned 18 crores on the first day which is actually a good thing. It was a working day but still it has managed to earn 18 crores (As per early estimates), however, when we compare the collections to the budget, it is indeed disappointing.

Padmaavat is a very expensive film & around 200 crores were spent on it. With 18 crores on an opening day, the film might not be able to cover its costs.
