This Country shows interest in Aadhaar system
The Philippines has shown interest in understanding the unique identification system, also known as Aadhaar, being devised and implemented by India.
Preeti Saran, secretary east, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) said on Thursday, “Philippines President Duterte discussed the Aadhaar system with Prime Minister Modi. He said he was interested in India’s Aadhaar system that could help him in his various endeavours including fighting corruption.”
The Philippines has been sending queries to India on how the whole system functioned even before the visit was to take place.
The MEA said there was a team from Philippines that had flown down to Delhi to meet with officials of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Secretary east, Saran said, “They sent a team to India to understand the system. Our PM said he would be happy to share India’s experience.”
The meeting which took place on Wednesday focused on the enhancement of cooperation between the two nations.
This comes at a time when the Indian government is faced with roadblocks at home with a petition at the apex court raising three issues: ‘Integrity of the process, the integrity of the information and pervasive violation of fundamental rights’.
The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court is hearing a slew of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar card.
The five-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, is hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar.
