Rajasthan By polls; Intense battle between BJP and Congress going on

Today Rajasthan is going to by-polls for three states, the Ajmer and Alwar Lok Sabha seats and the Mandalgarh Vidhan Sabha seat. The election is seen as a litmus test for Vasundhara Raje Scindia government.

Polling booths opened at 8 am and polling got off to a dull start. However, by 1:30 pm,
turnout had picked up to 37.15 percent in Alwar, 36.58 percent in Ajmer and 45 percent in
Mandalgarh.

Both BJP and Congress has lead intense campaigning for these seats running up to the
election.

Election to these seats was necessitated following the death of legislators in these seats, all of them belonging to BJP. So, it is very important for BJP to win all these seats or otherwise it would be viewed as a dip in the popularity of Raje’s government.

On the other hand, Congress would like to win at least one seat and getting a good momentum for 2019 Loksabha election.

Rajasthan sends 29 members to the lower house of Parliament and, in 2014, Vasundhara Raje delivered all of the seats to the BJP’s kitty barely six months into her term. Most of the media in the state has billed these by-polls as the semifinal before elections to the Vidhan Sabha in November.

Almost 40 lakh voters can exercise their franchise at over 4000 voting booths set up across Rajasthan today.
