Indian Navy launches ‘Karanj’ the third Scorpene class submarine built at Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).
The Scorpene submarine is designed to operate in all theatres, including the tropics.
An Indian Navy official said that the Scorpene class submarines are provided with all means and communications to ensure interoperability with other components of a naval task.
The first Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari, a diesel-electric attack submarine was commissioned on December 14, 2017 in Mumbai. While the second Scorpene-class submarine INS Khanderi was launched on January 12, 2017, and is expected to be commissioned later this year.
