For the upcoming Nagaland election, BJP has formed an alliance with the newly floated Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) led by former chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
For this alliance, they have also given up an alliance with the ruling Naga People’s Front. The decision for the alliance was taken after a meeting between BJP National president Amit Shah and Rio in the presence of BJP’s Nagaland president Visasolie Lhoungu, the party’s state media cell convener, K James Vizo said here today.
According to the pre-poll alliance, BJP will contest in 20 seats out of the 60 While NDPP will contest in the rest of the 40 seats.

Eleven parties including the ruling Naga People’s Front on 29 January had decided not to contest the 27 February polls, agreeing to the demand of tribal bodies and civil society groups to resolve the protracted Naga political problem first.
Though in the beginning, BJP also vowed not to contest the election, later the central leaders took the decision to contest. Election to the state assembly will take place on February 27.
