Woman cop repeatedly raped and filmed at gunpoint by senior officer for eight years

A woman constable posted at Meerut senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manzil Saini’s office has alleged that she was repeatedly raped by an inspector for eight years. An FIR has been filed against the officer, who has been relieved of his duties, according to senior police officers.

“I met inspector Lokendra Pal Singh in Bulandshahr in 2009, when he mediated a property dispute in which my family was involved. He won our family’s trust. However, he raped and filmed me at gunpoint in June 2010. Since then, he has been sexually exploiting me,” said the 34-year-old survivor.

An FIR was lodged under sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offenses) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at Mahila Thana in Civil Lines here on January 23, following which the police department has now initiated an inquiry.

“On numerous occasions, Lokendra threatened that he would leak objectionable video and audio recordings of me. Finally, I decided not to suffer in silence any longer and approached SSP Saini with a complaint. Lokendra has been threatening me over the phone ever since, and even threatened to assault me near the court premises here in Meerut on Tuesday,” the survivor said.

The inspector has been relieved of his duties as station house officer at Kalshaeed police station in Moradabad. “We will initiate a probe against him as a case has already been lodged in Meerut,” said Preetinder Singh, Moradabad SSP.

Lokendra was on a three-day leave from Moradabad citing health issues of his mother and allegedly turned up to reach out to the rape survivor in person with his threats to not pursue the case.

Meanwhile, allegations are afoot that the department is trying to save the accused inspector with local police allegedly dilly-dallying in a serious cognizable offense. “A case under serious sections including rape has been registered and the survivor has recorded her statement in court, but the local police are yet to arrest the erring inspector, who has not been suspended,” Sachin Kumar Naresh, lawyer of the survivor said.

The woman has also claimed that there is a threat to her life from the inspector. “Investigation has begun in the case with an FIR already registered, naming Lokendra. He will have no immunity and the law will take its course,” Maan Singh Chauhan, superintendent of police (city) said.
