Rahul Gandhi in election tourism: Railway Minister Piyush Goyal

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi is coming to Karnataka for “religious tourism”.

“I have heard he is coming for religious tourism. But I believe People of Karnataka are smart and they know everything,” said Piyush Goyal.

Goyal’s comments come amid Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to a temple at Huligi village in Karnataka today.

He added that the people of Karnataka are aware of the drama by the Congress party and will not wash away their sins.

“They are not going to be impressed by such drama. Things they have done under their state leadership, nothing can wash off their sins,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi began his tour titled Jana Aashirwada Yatre today. During the course of the day, he visited the Huligemma Temple in Koppal. In the evening, he visited the Gavi Siddeshwara Mutt in the district.

The Congress chief will also address campaign rallies and programmes during the visit. On Saturday, he kickstarted his four-day poll campaign with the launching of Jana Aashirwada Yatre from Hosapete city in Bellary, Karnataka. Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections in December, Gandhi had visited several temples in the state, including the Somnath Temple.

His temple run in Gujarat had invited criticism from the BJP, which had accused him of playing a “soft Hindutva” card ahead of the state polls.

Meanwhile, the Congress scion today intensified his attack on the NDA government on the Rafale fighter jet deal, alleging it was the “biggest issue” of corruption in the country now.

Launching his party campaign at Hosapete in Ballari district, Gandhi alleged that Modi had “personally” changed the contract during his visit to France to give it to a “friend”, and said the prime minister had not answered the three questions posed by him on the deal.

“Today Rafale aircraft is the biggest issue of corruption in the country. I want to tell a few things about this to you,” he said. On a four-day tour, Gandhi will cover Ballari, Koppal, Raichur, Kalaburagi and Bidar districts in north Karnataka, addressing public rallies, holding roadshows and interacting with farmers and others.
