‘BJP-NDPP alliance to come to power in Nagaland’

As Nagaland is gearing up for election, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party’s (NDPP) chief ministerial candidate Neiphiu Rio expressed confidence that the NDPP-BJP alliance it will come to power in the state with an absolute majority.

BJP decided to join in alliance with NDPP after breaking its alliance with the ruling Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) with whom the sate has been in alliance for last 15 years. According to Rio, BJP lost confidence in the incumbent Nagaland Chief Minister T R. Zeliang whose tenure was “riddled with massive corruption, instability, misgovernance, propaganda and lies” he claims.

He said that Zeiling is a chief minister without any vision and one who rules from behind instead of leading from the front. He said o while addressing election rallies in Peren district ahead of the February 27 assembly elections.

He also talked about the propaganda being carried out against the NDPP-BJP alliance. The former chief minister said that NDPP is not going to join BJP. But would like to keep a good rapport with the central government to bring peace and prosperity to the state.

He also said that its because BJP understood the problems in the Nagaland that they got ready to settle for just 20 seats while giving 40 seats for NDPP to contest.

He further added, “We have not aligned with the BJP to convert but to protect our rights as enshrined in Article 371A and therefore, our relationship with the Central government is very important.

“Article 25-28 under the Constitution of India guarantees secularism and the freedom of religion to all its citizens and therefore, no one needs to fear since it is our constitutional right to profess the faith of our choice. We are Christians and there is no compromise on that,” he said.
