The Ministry of External Affairs announced that Two Hindu pilgrims from Pakistan have received their visa extensions today.
An official in the MEA has confirmed that the pilgrims from Karachi have got their visas extended for at least 15 days. It also made it clear that it did not have any objections regarding the two Pakistan’s getting their visas extended.
The two Pakistani pilgrims belong to a 142 member Hindu group known as Hindu Jathas. This group had earlier demanded their visas to be extended. They also had demanded the authorities to allow them to visit other cities in the country apart from Amritsar. Since the demand has been accepted the group will now be visiting major cities such as Delhi and Haridwar.

The visa extension letter was handed over to the pilgrims by a Congress MLA in Punjab. The pilgrims appreciated the Indian government for considering their request. According to them, the government’s gesture is appropriate and praiseworthy.
The visa of the two pilgrims had expired on Thursday following which they demanded its extension to the Central government.
The issue was brought into the notice of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who held discussions with the officials and later decided to extend the visas for 15 to 20 days. According to sources, the pilgrim group came to India to immerse the mortal remains of their families in river Ganga at Haridwar.
The group now intends to visit several holy places in the country for the upcoming weeks before heading back home.
