The ruling BJP emerges as the winners in Gujarat municipal election here on Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was marching ahead in the Gujarat municipal polls as the counting of votes was underway on Monday.
According to the state election commissioner, out of 75 municipalities, the BJP has won 47, Congress 16, NCP 1, BSP 1 and independents 4, while in six constituencies, results were awaited.
The results will be declared for 75 Nagar Palikas (municipalities), two district panchayats, 17 talukas and 1400 village panchayats for which polls were held on Saturday.
The main competition was between BJP and Congress. In the elections to 75 municipalities, the main opposition party Congress won 16 seats.

Though the Congress has improved their seats, it is not enough to rule. The polling was held in 75 local municipalities, two district panchayats, 17 taluks and 1400 gram panchayats.
